Cluden Newry Spring 2014 Private Treaty Bulls

Autumn Angus Bull Sale: Monday 14th April 2014, 11.30am

Our annual sale was held on April 14th under beautiful, clear, sunny Tasmanian skies with a good crowd in attendance of return and new clients.

We were very pleased with the line up of bulls and with the depth in the catalogue offering. There were good bulls to be had right through the sale, many of them by our home bred sires, another pleasing aspect of our breeding programme.

The sale saw 42 bulls sell for a healthy average of $5207 and a top price of $12,500.

Top price of the day went for Lot 10, Cluden Newry Sydgen H16, an heavily muscled Sydgen Trust son with a Long Fed Index of $135.  He will be used in the Londavra stud of David & Vivian Young’s at St Marys.

The Reen family of Karoo stud, NSW, purchased Lot 17, Cluden Newry Franklin H78 for $10,500 to be used as a heifer bull, the same purpose for which he had been used in our stud. He has a good spread of figures, with a moderate frame and good structure.

Doug Collins from King Island picked out two A241 sons.  Lot 20, Cluden Newry Hardy H80, at 758 kg was  one of the heaviest bulls in the catalogue, and  Peter’s pick of the offering!  His second bull was Lot 16, Cluden Newry Hangover H129, each bull selling for $8000.

Sandy Gibson, of Native Point, Perth, selected three bulls for an average of $5,650.

Other multiple buyers included Elizabeth Hall from Waterhouse, who picked out Lot 4, Cluden Newry Andy H40, Lot 22, Cluden Newry Sydgen H71, Lot 32, Cluden Newry Harry H168 and Tim Gunn also from Waterhouse, who purchased Lot 8, Cluden Newry Franklin H97 and Lot 35, Cluden Newry Sydgen H58. Formosa Estate, from Cressy, purchased Lot 2, Cluden Newry Andy H114 and Lot 9, Cluden Newry Sydgen H17, the heaviest bull on the day, weighing in at 784 kg.

The sale was well supported by buyers from King and Flinders Islands.

This year’s sale is done and dusted and so now to start to sort out the J calves for next year’s sale. They include sons by Booroomooka Frankel, Sydgen Trust, Franklin, Upshot, Regent, Coonamble Elevator, Broken Bow and Dulcify as well as our home bred sires, including Cluden Newry Equator F10 who is breeding well.

The autumn rains and mild temperatures have set us up for a good year, we hope.

We have a great group of bulls left for Spring, including a full selection of the younger October drop H calves, which were not even considered for inclusion in the Autumn sale.

Autumn Angus Bull Sale - Monday 15th April 2013

Our 2013 sale went very well, especially considering the dry season and the prices being paid for beef cattle at present.

47 of the 54 bulls presented sold to a high of $12,500 with an average of $5544.

John Cleland of King Isle Farms bought Cluden Newry G147, a Tuwhartoa Regent son, whose Long Fed $ Index is +$155, well above breed average, for $12,500. Lawsons Angus, Yea, have bought a semen share in this bull.

Scott Thiessen, Southport paid $12,000 for another son of Regent with a Long Fed $ Index of +$156 and EMA of +10.5. Both of these bulls have been used in the stud.

Regular client Native Point, Perth, bought a Regent son at $9500 and two sons of Booroomooka Dulcify for $7000 and $6500.

Midway Cattle Co (Quarterway Angus Stud), Scottsdale, selected a son of Landfall Everlast D66, with positive Fat and high IMF figures for $8500.

King Island producers DB Harvey selected two bulls to $8000, while Enstone Park, Scamander Tasmania, went to $8500 for a son of Regent.

Fred Perry, King Island, bought five bulls to $8500, including a Karoo 24J Right Time son and Willowie, Graman, Inverell went home with 4 bulls for an average of $4887.

Bulls went to NSW and South Australia, but the bulk of the catalogue went to our regular local clients. 13 bulls out of the 47 sold went for $3500 or less.

Overall, we are grateful for the support we have received and now turn our attention to calving in the Spring and preparing the next lot of sale bulls!

There will be good bulls available for private treaty in the Spring 2013.
